Reform in China's Countryside

Mr. Kent Wiedemann, Diplomat-in-Residence at the East-West Center for the current year, will speak on “Reform in China’s Countryside.” In January this year, Mr. Wiedemann toured China for a study of the progress of the “Four Modernizations.” He made a special visit to the Fengyang county in Anhui province where the agricultural responsibility system was said to have served as national model to other areas. Mr. Wiedemann is a career foreign service officer, having done graduate work in international studies at the University of Oregon. Before the East-West Center assignment, Mr. Wiedemann served as Deputy Consul-General in the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai.
