Traditional Values and Modern China – a Perspective from Chinese Journalists
Each year, the Parvin Fellowship program at UH and EWC brings young journalists from China to observe and learn about American journalism. In its 30th year, the Parvin Fellowship affords young Chinese professionals an excellent opportunity to experience American academic life in the continuum of East-West cultural and professional exchanges.
This year’s six Parvin fellows (bios available at the event) will share with us their perspectives on traditional Chinese values and modern China. Each of them will talk briefly on one of the following topics:
- “Chinese Films,” a brief survey of Chinese movies.
- “Beijing Modernization,” changes in the lifestyle and cityscape of China’s capital.
- “China’s Young People and Traditional Chinese Art,” a talk on representation of traditional Chinese Art by modern Chinese young people.
- “Traditional Culture Fever in China,” a look at how traditional Chinese culture is coming back in China.
- “A Sense of Identity in the New Century,” a talk on the impact of economic development and globalization on young people in China.
- “Public Opinion Online and Cleaning Up Corruption,” a talk about netizens and the role they play in exposing corruption in China’s society.
